Introduction
Panduthakkudi Umapatheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Panduthakkudi village, Koothanallur taluk, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Panduthakkudi is two kilometers away from Koothanallur on Vadapathimangalam Road. Here the Presiding deity is called as Umapatheeswarar. This is an east facing Shiva Temple. It looks small from outside, but inside it is a huge temple of one acre. The main gate is in the west side.
Puranic Significance
The Lord’s shrine stands majestically in a Chola period stone structure towards the east. The temple is said to be more than 1200 years old. On the left side of the main hall gate is Vinayaka and there is Lord Umapatheeswarar as a huge lingamurthi. There is a small Nandi in front of him. A Nandi is facing the Lord outside the Mukhamandapam. Among the Karurai there is Vinayaka Dakshanamurthy Lingodbhava Brahman and Durga.
To the left of the temple of the Lord is the Ambigai shrine towards the east. Ambikai name is not known. In front of him there is a Nandi in the entrance hall. He has a sanctum sanctorum and a side of the temple wall. On the north side is Valli theivanai samedha murugan sannathi. In the north-east there is the Bhairava and the Sun and Saturn. Near it towards the south there is a statue of Brahma.
