Introduction

Orathur Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Orathur village, Budalur circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. From Thirukkattupalli on the road to Budalur, turn right from Vinnamangalam and turn right for 4 km to reach the Orathur village. A Jain sculpture can be found in Orathur village. Half km before the road back to this Orathur village there is a huge Shivalingam and a huge Nandi in the middle of the field on the right side of the village.

Both of them are in a strip shed. Lingamurthy’s is missing the lower part. As the people said that whenever they saw a withered crop, some of them saw it withered in the sun. Soon will make it a beautiful temple and be declared as the deity of the villagers. The lingam is said to be more than 1000 years old.
