Introduction
Ogalur Amrithakadeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Ogalur village, Kunnam taluk, Perambalur district, Tamil Nadu. Ogalur can reach by four kilometers west from Akaramseegur and cross Vellar River on the Karuvepilankurichi-Ramanatham road, this Shiva temple is located at the front of the town. Here the Presiding deity is called as Amritakadeswarar and mother is called as Vedhavalli.
Puranic Significance
The south gate of the east facing temple is decorated with the image of Lord sitting on a bull at the front gate. In this temple, Lord Amrithakadeswarar is located towards the east and the Mother Vedavalli is towards the south.
In front of the sanctum sanctorum there is a corridor called Arthamandapa with a tall flagpole in front of it and in front of it there is a Nandi Mandapam. In the sanctum sanctorum there are Ganesha, Lingodpavar, Brahma, Durga, Tenmugan with a front porch. To the west of the prakaram there is a long Thirumalikai Path which houses the shrines of Vinayagar, Kasi Viswanathar, Visalakshi and Valli theivanai samedha murugan. There is a nearby Mahalakshmi temple. There are also sanctum sanctorum of Chandikeswarar and Chandran. One of the durga idols has been isolated as it is slightly fragmented. This temple is under the control of Hindu Charities Department. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
