According to Nagai Navaneedesuvarar temple inscription, the first guru Gurunasambandar, That in 1560 during the reign of Thanjainayaka king Chevappa nayakar, Prakasar was appointed as the supervisor of the temples of Sikkal, Vadagudi, Odacherry etc. Through this inscription, there is evidence of the existence of a temple in this Odacherry was 500 years old. But the old temple was completely destroyed and after many years of efforts, the new temple was flooded in 2018.
The temple is completely newly constructed in the main compound, with a decorative arch with intricate carvings at the entrance gate. There is a Ganesha in a small room at the gate. Lord Vedapureeswarar is facing east. It is said that the Vedas were worshiped here; hence the lord name is Vedapureeswarar. A front hall rises before the Lord; Lord Akilandeswari has a temple facing south. In front of the Lord there is a small Nandi mandapam. Separate temples are set up for both Vinayagar and Murugan in Prakaram. Only Thenmugan is in Karurai Kottam. North-East has Saturn, Bhairavar and Sun, Lingam. Although the temple is new, the locals don’t seem to be celebrating much.
