Introduction

Nirthanamangalam Viswanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Nirthanamangalam village, Nagai circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. Here the lord is called as Viswanath Shiva in the form of lingam and Mother is called as Vishalakshi.

Puranic Significance 

            This village is located on the south bank of Kaduvai River. The river flowing towards the east turns towards the north at this place and thus the place gets spiritual significance and people live a peaceful life. In the middle of this town, a beautiful Shiva temple is situated as a temple facing east, which is said to be thousand years old. There is also a square pond on the south side of the temple. On the facade there is a three-tiered Rajagopuram dedicated to Lord Vishwanath and Mother is called as Vishalaksi.

 Beyond the Rajagopuram and towards the east are the Lord’s Sanctuary and the Arthamandapam, and a long front hall. There is a Nandimandapam outside it. Ambigai is heading south. There is also a Nataraja sanctum. In the sanctum sanctorum there is a medium-sized lingam of Lord, in the sanctum sanctorum lines is the south side with Vinayagar and behind the lingo is Durga.  Vinayagar Ayyappan, Murugan and Lakshmi and a well in the northeast side of the temple. Bhairav is in the North-East, Sun is in the South and Moon is in the South- east.
