Introduction
Neravy Kumaran (Arunanandeeswarar) Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Neravy village, Thirunallar Panchayat, Karaikal district, Tamil Nadu. There are two Shiva temples in this town. Jambunathar temple and north of it is Arunanandeeswarar temple. Here the presiding deity is called as Arunanandeeswarar and Mother is called as Anandavalli.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 800 years old. The temple, which used to be a big temple in earlier times, has now been renovated on a smaller scale. In 1989, when a pit was dug to repair the temple premises, eleven statues were found. The idols may have been hidden for protection. In 2015, kudamulukku took place.
Lord Arunanandeeswarar is a small lingamurti facing east, goddess Anandavalli is facing south. Opposite of the lord is Nandi. On one side of the gate are the two Nayaks and on the other side Murugan with Valli Theivanai. Karurai have Vinayakar Tenmugan and Lingotpavar Brahman Durga. In the north-east there is a lingam in a separate shed.
As Arun was worshiped, this Lord was named Arunaneeswarar, later known as Arunanandeeswarar. From the sea of milk; the gods sat in the front row and started eating. Then Svarabhānu sat in the row of gods who could not get the elixir. To reveal his trick to the Sun, Vishnu in the form of Mohini struck Svarabhanu. Then his body was different, his head was different. The severed body of Svarabhanu went to Thirumala and did penance. Pleased with this, Vishnu accepted his penance and created Svarabhanu in two forms with the body of a snake and the head of a snake. It has the body of a serpent and the head of a man. They were angry with the sun and hid it, so the sun went out. Once again, he worshiped the lingam and started burning it, and Aruna was the one who was sent to control this. The heat of the sun is controlled by him. Aruna’s brother, who drives the sun’s chariot, the early morning, is called Arunodayam because it rises before the sun rises. The name of the Aruna is given to this place. This temple is called as Arunanandeeswarar temple which gives us many benefits.
