Introduction

Neikunnam Thiruyambagheswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Neikunnam town, Nagai circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. Thiryambakam refers to the three eyes of Lord Shiva. Here the Presiding deity is called as Thiriambagheswarar is the one who has this name. Ambigai’s name Vimalambikai vimalam means pure and beautiful.

Puranic Significance 

In this way, both of them are living in the special place of Neikunnam. Gunnam means a small hill. You can reach Neikunnam on Poontotam-Karaikal road and cross the Arasalai Tirumalairajan River.

 A new temple has been built for the Lord, which was removed from a temple that had not decayed for a long time. Many tall trees are standing in front of the temple. The temple is brand new one. The west facing temple is the highlight. A long mandapam connects the two chambers to the south of Ambigai. A hall for Nandi has been set up outside this hall. In Karurai Kothams there is Thenmugan. In Ambika’s line is Saraswati Durga. Behind the prakara there is a lingam and two idols. Sani Bhagavan is in the usual place. The Old Temple is believed to be 1000 years’ old temple.
