Introduction
Neelakudi Viswanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Neelakudi village, Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. This Neelakudi is located in the northwest of Thiruvarur. Everyone knows that CUTN is Neelkudi because it is a central university. There is no need to search as the temple is right next to the main road on the south bank of Vettar River. Here the primary deity is called as Kashi Viswanathar and Mother is called as Kashi Visalatchi.
Puranic Significance
There is a big royal tree in front of the temple. There is also a Tirthakulam on the south side of the temple. To the east is Lord Kashi Vishwanath, and to the south is the Vishalatchi. Nandi is facing towards the lord. In Karurai Kottam there are Tenmukan Lingothavar, Brahma and Durgai. Prakaram has Vinayagar Murugan Mahalakshmi temple. Between the temples there are two lingams and small naga’s nearby. Bhairava, Shani and Surya are in North East side of the temple. This is the new temple which was destroyed and rebuilt. The old temple is said to be more than 1200 years old.
