Introduction

Narimanam Srinivasa Temple is dedicated to God Vishnu, located in the Narimanam village, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Srinivasa Perumal with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi. During his exile and journey to Sri Lanka in search of Sita, Sri Rama stopped at many place along the way. Narimanam is one of them. Narimanam is a village in the Cauvery delta region. A small town but very ancient. The two temples here are proof of the antiquity of the town. One is Sri Agastheeswarar Temple. Another one is Srinivasa Perumal Temple. The ancient name of this town is called ‘Harivanam’.

Puranic Significance

Sri Rama stayed at this place when he was on a pilgrimage during his exile. The forest and the place were called Harivana due to the presence of Lord Rama Chandra and his stay. After that, the rishis and sages wanted to build a temple for Perumal there and did so, according to the legend of this town. It is said that various inscriptions about this town are found in the Agastheeswarar temple.

Once upon a time there lived scholars who recited the four Vedas near the temple in this town. It is said that they used to regularly perform Vedic recitations in Shiva and Vishnu temples every day and that area was prosperous at that time. Over time, many families in the town migrated to other towns for work and business. Without caretakers, the temples and the town languished. Later, during the reign of Amarar S.S. Vasan, this temple was repaired and worships were performed. From that day till now, his family has been doing this work, after that on 6th July 2022-Kumbabhishekam – Maha Sambrokshan was held.

Special Features

Sridevi Bhudevi Sametha Srinivasa Perumal Temple is located in the middle of the town. The present construction of this temple is said to be 1000 years old. One can have darshan of Srinivasa Perumal by reaching that small area like mandapam. In the sanctum sanctorum, Perumal is standing as Sangu Chakra Katadhari, with Abaya Hasta, one hand in between, like Tirupati Perumal, with Sridevi -Bhudevi mother.

Festivals

Purattasi Brahmotsavam, Panguni Uthiram, Masi Makam, Vaikasi Visakam, Thiru Karthikai, Vaikunda Ekadashi and Sravana Deepam are the festivals celebrated here.
