Introduction

The Thiru Nageswarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located in Nanguneri, Thirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu.

Temple Features:

The temple consists of a single prakaram (enclosure around the sanctum).
There is a significant and large Pushkarani (temple tank) located in front of the temple.

Deities:

The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, who is worshipped in the form of a Swayambu Lingam and is known as Thiru Nageswarar.
Goddess Sivakami Ammai is the consort of Thiru Nageswarar.
Lord Murugan is also worshipped in this temple. He is depicted in a single-faced form with four hands and is in a standing posture, accompanied by his peacock.

Religious Significance:

Arunagiri Nathar, a famous Tamil poet and devotee of Lord Murugan, composed Thirupugazh, a collection of devotional songs, on Lord Subramanyar in this temple.
The temple is believed to be a place where individuals can seek relief from Sarpa Dosha (afflictions related to snakes) through special poojas.

The Thiru Nageswarar Temple is more than 1500 years old.
According to the Tamirabarani Mahatmiyam, this temple is one of the five important Shiva temples in the Tirunelveli region, collectively known as the Pancha Aasana Sthalams.
