Introduction

The Thiru Nageswarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located in Nanguneri, Thirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu.

  • The temple consists of a single prakaram (enclosure around the sanctum).
  • There is a significant and large Pushkarani (temple tank) located in front of the temple.

  • The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, who is worshipped in the form of a Swayambu Lingam and is known as Thiru Nageswarar.
  • Goddess Sivakami Ammai is the consort of Thiru Nageswarar.
  • Lord Murugan is also worshipped in this temple. He is depicted in a single-faced form with four hands and is in a standing posture, accompanied by his peacock.

  • Arunagiri Nathar, a famous Tamil poet and devotee of Lord Murugan, composed Thirupugazh, a collection of devotional songs, on Lord Subramanyar in this temple.
