Introduction
Nagathi Bhaktavatsaleswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Nagathi village, Budalur circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. From the Ammanpettai Bridge, travel 5 kilometres on the north bank of the bridge and reach the south bank of the river through the bridge established there, can reach the town called Nagathi on an island in the middle of the river. Here the Lord is called as Bhaktavatsaleshwarar and Mother is called as Soundaranayaki.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1200 years old. The Lord is facing west and ambigai is facing south side. The Lord is centuries old, this temple was built during the later Cholas and has been renovated by Nayak kings. There are no gods in Goshtas.
A colour reminiscent of Purana history is depicted in this mandapam facing east as Perumal is depicted as an amphikai with a lotus in both hands. Sandesar dakshanmurthy and all are in the inner hall for security reasons. Directly opposite the lord is Nandi under a single shed outside the front hall of the temple.
