Introduction
Nagapattinam Amaranandeeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Nagapattinam circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. Amaranandeeswarar Temple is one of the Nagai Panniru Temples, which is worshiped by Lord Indra. This temple is located near the entrance of Nagai Nilayatashi Amman Temple, which is located on Sannathi Road. Here the Primary deity is called as Amaranandeeswarar and Mother is called as Abithakujambal.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1300 years old. It faces east with a small tower gate. The name Amara-Indra-Iswarar Amarendeeswarar is now called by people as Amaranandeeswarar the god worshiped by Indra. In front of the temple, there is a sculpture of worshiping Lord Shiva in Mottai Gopuram. After that, on entering, there is Nandi, an altar and a huge copper flagpole facing the Moolasthana. There are two Nayaga Murthys at the sanctum sanctorum gate. In the sanctum sanctorum there is a male and a female idol in the position of worshiping the Lord, which cannot be identified as the idols of the city.
In front of the Lord there is an arthamandapam and a Small mandapam. Ambikai Abidakujambal is looking towards the south. Next to ganapati in Koshta, there is a huge mango tree in the Durga Prakara next to Datshanamurthi, Rajaganapati, Balamurugan Laxhmisaraswati Anjaneya and Bhairava and Navagrahas are in the north-east side of the temple.
