Introduction
Nadapur Nadanapureeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Nadapur village, Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. This is a small village called as Nadapur. Here the Presiding deity is called as Nadanapureeswarar in the form of Lingam and Mother is called as Nadana Nayaki.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 1300 years old. Although this Shiva temple is facing east, the main gate is facing south side. In front of the temple there is a big Nagalingam tree and a Tirthakulam. Lord Nadanapureeswarar is giving grace in the sanctum. At the sanctum sanctorum gate, Vinayaka is on the left and Thandayuthapani on the right. Opposite Pradosha nandi is also situated. Ambikai Nandanayaki is facing south.
Vinayagar in prakaram, Murugan along with Vallitheivanai are in the Sanctum. Dakshinamurti in the koshta, Durga in the north, Bhairava in the north-east, Surya, Chandra Navagraha, and Naga under the Nagalinga tree. An altar, Nandi, is placed on a separate platform outside the hall. They pray here to get rid of marriage barriers, to get blessed with sons, to get rid of Naga dosha, and to get rid of incurable diseases. This temple is one of the 108 temples built by the Cholas. There are various inscriptions in this temple. Disintegrated over time without maintenance. Later, the work sped up and a new temple was built and the idols were consecrated and Kumbabhishekam was held in September 2013. 14 golden idols found underground during the restoration work are being preserved in the royal treasury.
