Introduction
Muppaithangudi Kailasanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Muppaithangudi village, Thirunallaru taluk, Karaikal district, Tamil Nadu. From Tirunallaru – Sellur, there is Muphaithangudi after 2 km on the road going south through Perumal temple. Muppuramerithangudi later became as Muppai Thangudi. There are many temples in this town. This is a big Shiva temple, here the presiding deity is called as Kailasanathar and Mother is called as Kamakshi.
Puranic Significance
In the middle of the town, there is a royal tree on the bank of beautiful water body, under which there is a small Ganesha, and the big Shiva temple is facing east side. The gate is only on the east, so you have to take a small side road from the street on the west to reach the temple.
Lord Kailasanathar has a shrine towards the east and goddess shrine towards the south. Nandi is outside in the hall. Since it is called Kailasanathar, it may be a place dating back to a thousand years ago. Karurai Kothams include Vinayagar, Tenmukhan, Lingotpawar and Durgai. Prakara temples have Vinayagar and Murugan and a temple in the northwest has Lakshminarayan. To the north-east is the Navagraha Mandapam and to the west is the temple of Bhairava sanctum.
