Adavalleeswarar Temple is a south-facing Shiva temple located in Munnur Village in Marakkanam Taluk, Villupuram District of Tamil Nadu, India.

- The temple is believed to be over 1500 years old, with contributions and renovations made by various rulers, including Kulothunga Chola.
- There are several inscriptions in the temple that mention donations and contributions from various kings, such as Rajendra Chola, Kulothunga Chola I and II, Kulothunga Chola III, and Rajaraja Chola II.
- The place was originally known as Munnutrumangalam but later got corrupted to Munnur.
- Significance:
- Adavalleeswarar Temple is considered a Guru Parihara Sthalam, where remedies for Guru dosha (afflictions related to the planet Jupiter) are sought.
- It is believed that Lord Shiva and his consort danced here on the request of Kulothunga Chola, and hence the Lord is called Adavalleeswarar (one who danced).
- Mythological Legends:
- The temple has associations with the legendary sage Brihaspati (Guru), who came here to seek blessings and redemption from a curse.
- It is also said that Lord Murugan saved Nalliyakodan, a local chieftain, from a Chola invasion using divine lotus weapons.
- Temple Structure:
- The temple features a rare south-facing design.
- The main sanctum is dedicated to Adavalleeswarar (Shiva), who is a Swayambhu Moorthy and is represented in the form of a Lingam.
- There are shrines for deities such as Vinayaga, Dakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma, and Durga around the sanctum walls.
- The temple architecture includes a three-tiered vesara vimana (tower) and a separate shrine for Chandikeswarar.
- The temple tank is situated on the right side of the temple.

- Important festivals celebrated in the temple include Gurupeyarchi, Aippasi Annabishekam, Mahashivaratri, and Arudhra Dharshan.
- Pradhosham and full moon days are also observed regularly.
- The Velpooja Festival is celebrated during the Agni Nakshatram in the month of Chithirai.
- Subramaniyar is another famous festival observed at this temple.
- Theertham and Sthala Vriksham:
- The temple’s sacred tank is known as Brahma Theertham.
