Introduction
Melalavandhacheri Alavantheeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Melalavandhacheri village, Needamangalam circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu, This is a small Shiva temple called Alavantheeswarar which is more than a thousand years old.
Puranic Significance
The temple built entirely of bricks, is seen as completely disappear now, and it shows decay, collapse and burial. The upper part of the hall in front of the sanctum sanctorum has fallen stones. There was a tower in the east facing temple. But today there is something like a tower. Ambal has graced with sanctum in a private temple. Currently, the temple and the shrine are in ruins. That the temple is owned by private individuals, who do not live in the locality and therefore are not interested in maintaining the puja.
Due to the efforts of the locals, only the path leading into the temple has been cleaned. They have removed the plants and vines that were obstructing the entry and made adequate space. They have been doing Pradosha Pooja for the past few years. The Lord’s sanctum is facing east and Ambika is facing south. There is a Nandi at the gate of the sanctum sanctorum and a Nandi in the front hall next to the lord. There are two Ganesha’s on either side of the gate of the sanctum sanctorum, Murugan is with Valli Deivanai. There is a Dakshanamurthy and a Durga carrying a beautiful conch wheel. These may have been in the outer shell.
