Introduction
Melalakangan Viswanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Melalakangan village, Kuttalam circle, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. Aduthurai – Tiruneelakudi – S. Putur and cross the river that goes to the south, turn right on the road full of green trees, looking at the canal and traveling for ½ kilometer, the first small village will come to is Mela Alangan. Akalangan is the name of Vikramachola and this name is because the village was given as a sacrifice by Vikramachola. The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. This is a small Shiva temple. Here thePrimary deity is called as Viswanatha and Mother is called as Vishalaksi. Towards the east there is a Vinayagar Murugan sanctum in the front of Lord Vishwanath and Nandi is placed opposite to the lord. Lord. Bhairava is in North East side of the temple.
