Introduction
Maruvathur Adi Madhyarjuneshwarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Maruvathur village, Sirkazhi circle. Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Presiding deity is called Adimathyarjuneswarar, and Mother is called as Abinnapadmanayaki.
The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. The temple is built with walls on all four sides. There is a pond in front of the temple. In the middle is the Lord’s shrine built of black stone and it has Arthamandapam. There is a nandi and an altar inside the mahamandapam and a nandi and an altar outside the mandapam.
There is a big lingamurthi in the Lord’s sanctum. Vinayaka and Murugan are at the gate of the sanctum sanctorum. Ambigai is in the south facing side. There is also little Nandi in front. In the north-east corner of the hall, Bhairava is facing west and Chattanath is smaller towards south. The temples are made of stone. The temple is open only in the evening.
