Introduction
Maruthampattinam Thanthondeeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Maruthampattinam village, Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. From the south-east corner of Tiruvarur’s, one can reach this place by going two kilometres further on the road leading towards the east. Maruthampattinam is a beautiful nature filled village. There are two Lord Shiva temples in this town. The first one is Thanthondeeswarar and the second one is Abhimuktidishwar. Here the Primary deity is called as Thanthondeeswarar and Mother is called as Soundaranayaki.
This Shiva temple is facing west side, Lord is facing west and Ambikai is facing south side. Lord – Thanthondeeswarar Lord – Soundaranayaki may be a newly built temple. He is a medium size Lingamurthy. Vinayagar and Balamurugan are present at the Lord’s shrine gate. There is a nandi and an altar in front of the Lord. Durga, Brahma Lingodhavar and Dakshnamurti are located in the domes around the Lord’s shrine. At the back of the sanctum sanctorum, the sun, and the moon are in their separate rooms. The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old.
