Introduction
Mappadugai Chandrasekhar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Mappadugai village, Mayiladuthurai circle, Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. The temple is called Chandrasekhara because it is the place where the moon is worshiped. This is a Small sized temple facing east. There are two entrances in the east and in the south. The Lord has an east-facing Sanctum and the Mother has a south-facing Sanctum. A beautiful front hall connects the two Sanctums; outside this hall is the Nandi Mandapam.
The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. Only Tenmugan is in Karurai. Pradhana Vinayagar is next to Prakarasitalayam and there is Medhamurugan. Next there is also a small shrine of Lakshmi in standing Posture. It is special to worship him on the Ashtamina days; Saturn and Sun are present in the temple. Pujas are held both morning and evening.
