Introduction
Manalur Punnaivanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Manalur village, Kilvelur circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. This temple has been newly formed after the destruction of the old Temple and the Shiva temple towards the west in the eastern part of Periyakulam. Here the Presiding deity is called as Punnaivanathar and Mother is called as Sundaravalli. The Lord is a medium-sized lingamurti with the Sanctum facing west.
On the left side of the Lord there is a temple of Lord Vinayagar who is known as Gudaivinayakar. On the right side of the Lord is Vallitheiwanisamedhamurugan. Small halls are set up on both sides of the entrance to the temple and there are idols of the Pajam Thiru temple. To the left are two Nayayaks and in the middle Bhairav is facing east. The idols of Vishnu Durga, Shani Bhagavan are placed on the right side and Dakshana Murthys are placed on the south side. The Temple is believed to be 500 years old.
