Introduction

Manakkarambai Kashi Viswanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Manakkarambai, Thiruvaiyaru circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. Manakkarambai is 7 km north of Thanjavur on Thiruvaiyaru Road. This is a small Shiva temple facing towards the east side of the village. Here the Presiding deity is called as Lord Kashi Viswanatha and Mother is called as Kashi Visalatchi.

Puranic Significance 

     In front of the temple there is a big royal tree under which there is a Vinayaka, a Naga’s, a small Nandi and a defaced Ambikai idol. The Lord – Kashi Vishwanatha is facing towards the east side sanctum and Mother – Kashi Visalatchi is facing towards the south side sanctum. Lingamurthy is in middle sized lingam. Although it is said to be a lingam from Kashi, it does not seem to be so. The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old.

There is a mandapam in the front of the lord sanctum, in this mandapam there is a big statue of Ganesha at the gate of Karuvarai, on the other side there is Valli theivanai samedha murugan, outside this hall there is a small statues of Ganesha and small Murugan. In the south-east there are three small lingams. In the north-east there is Bhairava, Sun and Navagraga mandapam. Directly opposite the front hall is a Nandi Mandapam. Only Tenmugan is in Karurai Kottam. There is also a sanctum sanctorum in the north. It looks like a quiet village on top of a large temple.
