- Mythological Legend:
- Madvasura, originally a rakshasa who allied with Ravanasura in Tretayuga, was known for living peacefully despite being a demon. During the Rama-Ravana war, Madvasura witnessed Lord Hanuman and passed away upon uttering “Hanauma!”.
- In Dwaparayuga, Madvasura was reborn as Madvakudu and continued to live peacefully. He participated in the Kurukshetra war on the side of the Kauravas, and upon seeing Lord Anjaneyaswamy‘s image on Arjuna’s flag, he passed away.
- During Kaliyuga, Madvasura was reborn as Madvudu and, while touring across the country, arrived at the banks of Yerrakaluva. There, he started a period of intense Tapas (meditation) for Lord Anjaneyaswamy.
- Due to his old age, Madvudu struggled to walk. Each day, a monkey would help him by guiding him to the river bank for his bath and serve him fruits as food. Over time, Madvudu realized that the monkey was none other than Lord Anjaneyaswamy.
- Madvudu, upon realizing the divine presence, humbly asked for Lord Hanuman’s pardon. Lord Anjaneyaswamy granted his wish, telling him he would always remain with him in the form of an idol on a Maddi tree, holding a fruit in one hand and a Gadha in the other.
- The place was named Sri Maddi Anjaneya Swamy Temple, and the Maddi tree became a symbol of Madvasura’s devotion and the divine presence of Lord Hanuman.
- Temple Significance:
- The Maddi tree is central to the temple, representing the location where Lord Hanuman granted Madvasura’s boon.
