Introduction
The Kaleshwari Temple is dedicated to Goddess Kaleshwari, located in Lavana Village in Khanpur Taluk in Mahisagar District of Gujarat, India.
Puranic Significance
The Kaleshwari Mata Temple, situated at the northern end of the Ghummat Walu Mandir, consists of a Mandapam that lacks any intricate portraits or carvings. Presently, this shrine is upheld by two massive pillars. The walls of the Kaleshwari Mata Temple are adorned with beautiful images of Nataraja Shiva. It appears that the current temple may have served as the sabha mandapa (prayer hall) of a previous temple, as there are no traces of the sanctum and antrala.
Inside the temple, there is an idol of Lord Nataraja placed within a niche in the wall, and this deity is locally revered as Kaleshwari. It’s important to note that this niche seems to be a later addition to the original structure, and the original idol of Kaleshwari from the sanctum of the earlier temple is likely lost or not found. The temple’s roof is supported by four pillars, two half pillars, and ten pilasters. At the front, parapet walls on both sides of the entrance provide cover. The inner part of the parapet wall is equipped with stone seating arrangements (Kakshasana), and the side walls of the hall feature two central openings that function as windows for the hall.
