Introduction
Kumbakonam Adhikumbeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Kumbakonam district, Tamilnadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Adhikumbeswarar and Mother is called as Anandavalli. This temple is located on the Kambatta Viswanatha Keezha Veethi in Kumbakonam. (Kambattam refers to a goldsmith street). At one time, this place was famous for minting coins. The Chola kings who ruled Tanjore at one time minted coins here. Gold coins were made here. In this regard, it is also called Nasik of Tamil Nadu.
Puranic Significance
Kumbakonam was once known as the city of Maladivana. It was filled with Maladi trees. The sage Nashasaraya resided in Udayagiri. His son, Dumaketu, was a great sage. He mastered many arts. Students would gather around him to learn. Whatever he said, the students would ask in the same manner. Due to this, students paid great attention to their studies and excelled in arts. Dumaketu would take them to various temples. He illuminated the arrangement of the temple, its historical significance, and the greatness of worship in a way that it became a pleasure for the students to learn. One of the places he visited became the Adhikumbeswarar Temple. Impressed by his teaching, Lord Shiva himself appeared before him. Seeing the blissful vision, Dumaketu named him Viswesara and his wife Anandavalli. He named the place where the divine bathed as “Teertham of Dumaketu.”And the temple is said to be more than 1500 years old.

Festivals
On Maha Magha day, Adhikumbeswarar accompanies Ambal to the Maha Magha tank. Additionally, various festivals related to Shiva are celebrated here.
