Introduction

Kottucherry Kodeeswaramudayar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Kottucherry village, Karaikal district. On Karaikal – Tharangambadi road, five km from Karaikal bus station and eight km from Tharangambadi, Kottucherry is a commune; to the west of the main road is this Shiva Temple is located. Here the Presiding deity is called as Kodeeswaramudayar and Mother is called as Soundaranayaki.

Puranic Significance

This east facing Shiva temple may be a Five hundred years old. Lord Kotiswaram has an east-facing sanctum, and the gate has a large number of Dwarapalakas.

There is a shrine towards the south of the Goddess Soundaranayaki. A long cement hall connects the two sanctuaries. The sanctum sanctorum houses Dakshanamurthy, Lingotpavar, Brahman and Durga. The shrines have Mahaganapati and Murugan Lakshmi Saraswati as the attendant deities. Navagraha mandapam and Nagas have their own shrines in the north-east. Bhairavardani has a temple to the west under a big tree. There is also a well in the north-east. As it is on the main road of the city, people come here for daily worship.
