Introduction
Kottamangalam Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Kottamangalam village, Nagai circle, Nagapattinam district, Tamil Nadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Viswanath and Mother is called as Vishalakshi. King Thirumalai Rayan builds 108 temples in this area. Many of them are decayed and some have regenerated. This Kothamangalam is one of them. This is an east facing Shiva temple.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. There is also a large pond to the east of the temple. A mandapam connects the two sanctuaries of Lord Vishwanath. There is a gate in the east and a gate in the south. Above the eastern gate are stone carvings. In the middle of this hall is Nandi. Ganesha and Balamurugan are on either side of the Lord in the Sanctum. There is no Koshta deity and Bhairavar in the temple.
