Introduction
- Location: Kolanalli Village, Erode District, Tamil Nadu.
- Presiding Deity: Pambalankara Swamy, with Mother Pangaiyar Selvi.
- The temple is an ancient shrine located on the banks of the Kalingarayan Canal in Erode district. Kolanalli is situated 29 km from Erode and 12 km from Kodumudi.
Puranic Significance:
- The Kalingarayan Canal runs between the temple wall and the lamp post, indicating that the temple existed before the canal was constructed. This makes the temple historically significant.
- It is believed that the King of Mysore donated lands to the temple.
- The temple was consecrated on January 20, 1956. Due to some maintenance issues, the temple fell into disrepair over the years. However, it was rebuilt and the Kumbabhishekam (consecration ceremony) was performed again in 2017.
- In the early days, devotees would enter the temple through the northern gate. During the 2017 reconstruction, a bridge was built above the canal to allow access to the temple from the eastern side.
Beliefs:
- It is believed that by worshipping Pambalankara Swamy, devotees can have their doshas (afflictions) caused by serpents removed. This makes the temple particularly important for those seeking relief from Naga Dosha or snake-related issues.
Special Features:
- The temple features a three-tiered Raja Gopuram (gateway tower) and two Nandi statues at the entrance.
- Inside the Mahamandapa (great hall), idols of Ganesha and the Utsavar (processional deity) are enshrined.
- In the sanctum sanctorum, Pambalankara Swamy is depicted standing, with a serpent coiled around his body. The deity is believed to have been found in a Swayambu (self-manifested) form, surrounded by a serpent, which is why the temple is named Pambalankara Swamy.
- Devotees claim to have witnessed the movement of serpents within the temple, adding to its mystique.
- Archaeologists have examined the inscription located at the base of the sanctum sanctorum tower and identified it as a Kongu Chola inscription from over a thousand years ago.
- The temple has a separate shrine for Pangaiyar Selvi, the goddess. Additionally, shrines dedicated to Maha Ganapati, Valli Deivanai, Sametha Subramaniyar, Durga, Sandikeswarar, Navagrahas (nine planets), Bhairava, and Saneeswarar can also be found within the temple complex.
