Introduction

Kizhamanai Vaidyanatha Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Kizhamanai town, Karaikal circle, Karaikal district, Tamil Nadu. Kizhamanai is the area between Arasalar and Tirumalairajan River which runs next to Karaikal. Kizhamanai can be reached by travelling 5 km on the south bank of Karaikal. This temple, which has been neglected for many years in this town, now shines brightly. Like the Vaideeswaran temple, here the Lord is called as Vaithyanatha and the mother is called as Thaiyal Nayagi.

Puranic Significance

The temple built during the Tirumalairayan period has been destroyed and a completely new temple has come up. The temple is said to be more than 1000 years old. To the west of the temple, the Lord is enshrined in a small lingam, and to the south is the Ambika. A front hall connects the two sanctums and has a Nandi altar. Vinayagar is there in its south-west and Murugan in the north-west. There are no idols in Sanctum Sanctorum. There is a separate shrine of Lakshminarayan. On the wall of the sanctum sanctorum, the colour of the handwork shines wonderfully.
