Puranic Significance
Once Brahma, yagya with ghee which he got from Kamamadenu, Agni kept ingesting more of that ghee than he needed, and due to drinking too much ghee, Agni became ill. Agni could not go and accept the ghee after that, and thus Brahma and other gods and Agni’s wives were upset. When asked what to do for this, Sage Vyasa said that after taking a bath in the Thiruvarur Kamlaalaya temple pond, one should worship Kailasanatha, who is the embodiment of Swayambu at this place. Agni did the same and got rid of this problem. So you can worship this Lord to get rid of the ailments of Agni.
