Puranic Significance

Due to a curse, this place is worshiped by Adisha. Another name for Adisesha is Ananda. Therefore, the name of this Lord is called Anandeeswarar. There is a small shrine to the north here. Repair work is going on in the temple of Lord-Anandeeswarar, Mother Abhirami, which has been dilapidated for 40 years. The walls have been demolished and only the front gate is under construction. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.

Here the Lord is facing east. The god is in the south facing sanctum. Opposite to Ambika, Murugan has a north-facing sanctum. In front of the Lord there are Nandi, the altar and the small Lord Ganesha. Karurai have Tenmukan Durga. A new temple is set up for Vinayagar. Similarly Mahalakshmi Temple has been set up with Navagraha and Bhairava idols adjacent to the Ambikai shrine. Like the heads worshiped by Devas, Rishis, Sages, Siddhas and Asuras, Nagas have come from the earth to worship Lord Shiva in many temples.
