Legends:

The ruler of the region during the 6th century was Bhutala Veera Udaya Marathandan. He divorced his wife due to a disagreement, and he regretted not having an heir. After performing the Kartihaka Soma fasting, a boy was born to the king by the grace of Lord Shiva. Due to this divine event, the deity Kulasekaranatha Swamy received the name ‘Vamsa Viruttiswarar,’ which signifies the one who established the dynasty.

The temple is considered a solution for couples who are separated due to differences of opinion and for those who are suffering due to childlessness.
