Introduction
Karugudi Vaidyanatha Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Karugudi village, Thiruvaiyaru circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. It is just one kilometre away from Karugudi Thiruvaiyaru on the road to Kumbakonam. On the main road there is a Kashi Vishwanath Temple, turn left and a few hundred feet down a small Agrahara Street, at the end of the street there is a dilapidated Shiva Temple to the east, which has been lying in the water for many years before restoration work begins. A shady area surrounded by coconut trees and teak trees. Here the presiding deity is called as Lord – Vaidyanatha and Mother is called as Balambikai. The lord is facing East side and mother is facing south side. No Goshtamurthys, no Sandesar here in the temple. Lingamurthy is in the middle of the field. Ambika is also on par with Lingamurthy. The temple is said to be more than 1500 years old.
