Introduction
Chennai is an area surrounded by large IT companies. Once upon a time, this area was a thriving agricultural area. An area for many cities. An area inhabited by many farmers. On that day “Mother Ganga” blessed them here (Karapakkam). All the town buses towards Sholinganallur Thiruporur and Mahabalipuram stops at Karapakkam. 35 KM from Mahabalipuram, 20 KM from Thiruporur and 3 KM from Sholinganallur.
Puranic Significance
Sage Kapila was fetching water from the Ganga to pray to the Lord, when he tripped and the mandalam fell down from his hand. In it, the Ganges water was scattered. In the splashing water, Mother Swayambu gangai appeared. The rest of the water became Thirukulam. It is surprising that that Tirukulam is a perennial pond. Swayambu Amman, who appeared, began to bless the devotees as Mother Ganga under the neem tree in a shed made of palm leaves for about 300 years.
Especially, since this area is an agricultural area, Goddess Ganga blessed the farmers. Therefore, farmers started coming more and more. After that, Sundaram, a resident of Karapakkam, decided to build a temple 30 years ago. Along with Gangaiyamman, who is in the form of Swayambu, he consecrated another Gangaiyamman. Since then this temple started to become famous. About 8 years ago, he built 5 level Rajagopurams, made it a big temple, and again dedicated Amman in it. Thus, there are three Ganga Ammans who appeared in the form of Pushuyambu, Ganga Amman who was established 30 years ago, and Ganga Amman who was consecrated 8 years ago, and have been blessing the devotees.
