Introduction
Karaimeendarkottai Sundareswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Located in the Karaimeendarkottai village, Orathanadu circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. This Shiva temple is located in the north-eastern part of the town. The town is famous fort, known as the Karaimeendar Fort / Kotayundar Reserve. Here the Presiding deity is called as Sundareswarar and Mother is called as Meenakshi amman. The temple is east facing Shiva temple and has the separate sanctum for Lord Sundareswarar and Ambika has separate sanctum to the left of lord.
The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. Lord Sundareswarar and Lord Meenakshi are facing east side, and the lingamurthy is Medium sized with small Nandi in front of the sanctum. Adjacent to the sanctum wall of the temple, a madam has been erected for Tenmukhan Durga. In front of the temple there is a big tin shed. Sandesar is in the usual place. Goddess Meenakshi has an east facing sanctum sanctorum and both Vinayagar and Murugan at its gate. The front hall houses the beautiful Sandeswari.
