Introduction
Manikanteswara Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Kanipakam Village near Chittoor City in Andhra Pradesh, India. The Temple is situated adjacent, on the right side of the Kanipakam Vinayaka Temple.
Puranic Significance
This Temple is believed to be built during the period of Kulothunga Chola (11th century) and later expanded during the reign of the Vijayanagara Kings in the year 1336. Presiding Deity is called as Manikanteswara and Mother is called as Maragathavalli. The Temple is very well maintained with an absolutely beautiful garden. It was constructed by Kulatunga Chola King as part of his mission to construct 101 Siva Temple to get rid with the sin of killing Brahmana. Here the Lord is found along with his consort Maragathavalli. The Temple is located at about 500 meters from Kanipakam, Kanipakam is well connected to Chittoor.
