Introduction
Kalyanapuram Kashiviswanathar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Kalyanapuram village, Thiruvaiyaru circle, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. 12 km on the road going north from Thanjavur, the capital of the Chola kings. In the distance is Thiruvaiyaru. Kalyanapuram is the area between Kaviri and Kudamrutti which flows south of Thiruvaiyaru. Here the presiding deity is called as Kasi Vishwanath and Mother is called asKasi Vishalakshi.
Puranic Significance
The temple is said to be 1000 years old. This is an east facing Shiva temple, the entrance is on the west side is through a beautiful ornamental archway, a large open space in front of the temple has a beautiful square pond.
Lord-Kashiviswanatha and Goddess-Kasivisalakshi has a beautiful high Sanctum towards the east. In front of him, there is a large square-shaped high front hall and a variety of statues telling legends are arranged on the supporting walls of the hall. At the sanctum sanctorum gate is Adhivinayakar. Kalabhairava, the sun, the moon and the four are all present in the front hall. On the left outside the front hall is Vinayakar. On the other side opposite is Balasubramaniya. Dakshnamurthy and Lingodpavar Brahman Vishnu Durga are present around the sanctum sanctorum. Anjaneya is in the north-west towards the east. Navagraha in the north-east and nagars in various sizes under a tree in the south. The people of this place jointly maintain this temple through an organization called Srikasi Vishwanath Seva Trust. The temple is also well maintained.
