Introduction

Location:

• Kalipatti village, Mallasamudram, near Tiruchengode in Namakkal District, Tamil Nadu.
• Approximately 25 km Northeast of Tiruchengode and 25 km Southwest of Salem.

Puranic Significance:

• Sacred as the Arupadai Veedu Murugan shrines.
• Devotees receive black ash made from sugarcane instead of Vibhuti, believed to have medicinal properties (historically used for snake bites).
• Built in the 18th century by Katteri Lakshmana Kavundar, founded by Pazhani Kavundar.
• ‘Karun Sambal’ (snake poison antidote) is used for treating devotees.
• The Raja Gopuram was modernized in 1978.
• Features two temple chariots: Chithra Thaer and Vinayaka Thaer, used during festivals.

Festivals:

• Annual Thaipoosam festival in January attracts thousands of pilgrims who bear Kaavadi in fulfillment of vows.
• A significant cattle fair during the festival, one of the largest in the Kongu region, with over 50,000 cattle traded.
• Large offerings of agricultural produce, money, and jewels made to the temple.
• Various activities include Pongal worship, kavadiyattam, karakattam, kuravan kuratti, and kummipattu.

Additional Features:

• Known as one of the seven richest temples in the Namakkal District.
• Facilities include chatrams (rest houses) for pilgrims, such as the Arya-Vaisya Chathiram (Rasipuram Pattabhi Chettiyar Chathiram) conducting special worship in February.
