Introduction
Kakitakkara Theru Kashiviswanatha Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Kakitakkara Theru village, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. From the North Road of Thiruvarur big temple, the second left road on the road leading to Mayiladuthurai is Kakitakkara Street. This Kashi Vishwanathar temple is located at the end of the road in West Side. Here the Presiding deity is called as Kasi Viswanathar and Mother is called as Vishalakshi
Puranic Significance
Once upon a time the Asuras who wanted to trouble the Gods unleashed the evil forces with the help of their Shukracharya. Due to this, the Devas were affected by severe heat and blisters appeared on the body. The medicine given by Ashvini devas, who were divine doctors, did not work. So they asked Lord Shiva to protect them from disease. To sweep away the deities, from Shiva’s braid came the radiance from the moon and from the Ganga. That light, which became Parvati’s aspect, became known as Seethalambhikai and took the form of Ambal. Shiva taught some mantras to the gods to worship this goddess. Reciting this hymn called “Sitalashtakam”, he blessed that if you worship Ambala, you will get rid of heat. This Lord who is worshiped by Goddess Sita. But this temple is called Kashi Vishwanath and may be the temple that was built after the destruction of the great temple. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. Only Vinayagar seen here appears to be ancient. This Kashi Vishwanath temple is facing east and Vishalakshi is facing south. There is a hall in front. At the gate of the sanctum sanctorum there is a small Lord Ganesha and a Lord Murugan. On the south side of the temple there is a big Ganesha under a lotus.
