Introduction

Kaduveli Siddha peetham (Paramanath Temple) is located in the Kaduveli village, Thruthuraipoondi circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Here the presiding deity is called as Paramananda and Mother is called Valaambhikai

Puranic Significance

Those who received the grace of Lord Shiva and those who followed the will of that Lord were called Siddha’s. Siddhas are those who incarnated to realize the birth of human beings and unite them with the Lord. The place where the Siddhas were born, the place where they roamed, the place where the Siddhas attained samadhi, and the place where the Siddhas had their abode are still worshiped as Siddha Peedam.

One such Siddha was Kaduveli siddha. He was born and lived in Tiruirumbaimakalam (Tindivanam). Then he stayed for some time in the forest near Thiruvaiyaru district Thanjavur. Then he went to Kancheepuram and from there he searched for the divine essence of light in the forest and composed 35 songs. Popular among the laity, an antidote in his Nandavana. Not many people know the name of the singer. He was the one who revealed it. Kaduvelyar was born and brought up in a farming village in Chithalathur village.

As a token of his immense love for Lord Shiva in the wilderness, Vedaranyam used to pray to Thirupyaka Kadar with all his heart. Vedaranyam used to go and worship several times and he also worshiped Shri Paramanathar Shivalingathiru Valamphikai Amman who was in the field one of the days when he was grazing cows.

When Kaduveli Siddha sang the praises of Lord Shiva, pleased with his devotion, split the Shiva lingam in two in the colourful Kaduveli, expressing his greatness. The Shivalinga split and Lord Shiva emerged from it. Lord Shiva as Paramanathaswamy appeared and showed Paramananda when he sat in the clearing and prayed the Namasivaya mantra, so Lord Shiva of this temple was called Paramananda – Paramanathaswamy. All the Siddha’s came to worship the Goddess sleeping with Lord Shiva to give her strength. But he bowed down to Vaalikumariya to the dark image. Thus Paramananda Eeswaranurayum Devikumvalambigai got its name. It was this Kadupalayasitha who composed the famous song ‘Bhuvanthanan Orudhondi’.

He who has the power to fly and the power to disappear, by his power he went to many places like Thiruvaiyarupandicherry, Kanchipuramdurai, and his Jeevasamadhi is in front of the Vinayagar temple under the royal tree.
