Introduction
Ilandavancheri Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Ilandavancheri village, Kudavasal circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. Kudavasal – Thiruvarur highway is 8 km from Kappanamangalam bus stop, directly opposite this stop and ½ km across the Cholasudamani River which flows eastwards, this is a small temple in the middle of the town. There is a large pond at a little distance on the north side of the temple. Here the primary deity is called as Lord Shiva and Mother Name is unknown.
Puranic Significance
The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. Here the lord faces east and the goddess faces south. In front of the Lord in the Mugha Mandapam there is a Nandi and an altar. Vinayaka and Murugan are at the gate of the sanctum sanctorum.
Tenmugan is on the south side of the Karurai wall and Durga is on the north side. In the north-east there is a hundred-year-old tree under which there is a statue of Lord Vishnu. There is Lakshminarayan statue in the northern part of the temple.
