• Historical Context: The temple was constructed in the 11th century (1018 AD) during the reign of the Chalukyas of Kalyani, making it one of the ancient temples in Maharashtra.
• Ancient Names: Historically, the region encompassing Solapur and Satara was known as Kuntal. Over time, Solapur has been referenced with various names, including:
  • Sonnalige
  • Sonlipure
  • Sonalpur
  • Sandalpur
  • Sholapur
  • Presently known as Solapur.
• Temple Features:
  • The temple entrance is adorned with several trees, including a significant Banyan tree near the entrance.
  • Inside the temple, there are 18 large stone pillars intricately carved, showcasing the artistry of the time.
  • The presiding deity of the temple is Sri Sangmeshwar.
