Introduction

  • Tirupati Balaji Temple in Guwahati is one of the most popular temples in the region.
  • It is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara and is located in the Ahom Gaon area of Guwahati in Kamrup District, Assam.
  • The temple follows traditional South Indian architecture and is considered a replica of the original Tirupati Balaji Temple.

Puranic Significance

  • The temple was initiated by Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, the Sankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam in Tamil Nadu, in 1994.
  • The construction of the temple was completed in 1998, covering an area of about 2 acres.

Special Features

  • The Rajagopuram (main entrance tower) of the temple is 70 feet high.
  • The temple is built in the South Indian architectural style and is painted white.
  • At the entrance, there is a shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
  • The Sanctum Sanctorum consists of the Maha Mandapam, Artha Mandapam, and the Sanctum.
  • The presiding deity, Tirupati Balaji (Lord Venkateswara), is housed in the sanctum, and the idol weighs about 4 tons.
  • Garuda, the celestial vehicle of Lord Venkateswara, can be found facing the sanctum.
  • The temple also has a separate shrine for Goddess Padmavathi, consort of Lord Venkateswara.
