Introduction

• Kalyana Anjaneyar Temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located in Thailavaram Village near Guduvancheri, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu.
• The temple is situated on GST High Road (Chennai – Trichy route) between Guduvancheri and Maraimalai Nagar, next to SRM Engineering College.
• Unique for featuring Lord Hanuman with his consort, Suvarchala Devi, in contrast to his usual portrayal as a bachelor.

Puranic Significance

• The temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
• It is one of the few temples where Lord Hanuman is depicted along with his consort, Suvarchala Devi.
• Suvarchala is described in the Parasura Samhita as the daughter of Lord Surya, who was Hanuman’s guru.
• Lord Hanuman’s idol is 8 feet tall with four hands, a rare depiction.
• Suvarchala Devi is only represented in the Utsav idol (processional deity) form, not in the main idol.

Special Features

• The temple has a 32 feet high bell called Ghanta Sthamba, with the top 18 feet symbolizing the 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita.
• The bell also functions as a shrine for Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana, with their Utsava Moorthi present.
• The Moola Vigraham (main idol), hidden deep inside the bell, is made of Rosewood and is not visible to visitors.
• The four small statues of Anjaneya at the base of the bell show him with folded hands.
• The bell is said to represent Swami Desika, a great Vaishnava Acharya, believed to be an incarnation of the bell from the Tirumala temple.
