Introduction
Ettiyalur Umamaheswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Ettiyalur village, Thiruvarur circle, Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu. There are many legends about the name of this town. However, Ettiur is also known as Ettiyalur due to the trees called Etti growing in the nearby stream. There are two temples in this town, one is Umamaheswarar Temple and the other is Kashi Vishwanathar Temple which was built later as both the temples were destroyed in the past.To the east is this Lord Umamaheswar is located, and at the sanctum sanctorum gate, there are the 200-year-old idols. Here the primary deity is called as Lord Umamaheswar is facing east and Mother is called as Umamaheswari is facing south. A long hall connects the two sanctums. Nandi is outside the lord sanctum. Karurai Kottam has Tenmugan and Durga. Prakaram has sanctum for both Vinayagar and Balamurugan. Both Navagraha and Bairavar sani are on the same floor in the northeast side of the temple. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.
