Introduction

Eraiyur Mangaleswarar Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva, Located in the Eraiyur village, Tindivanam district, Tamilnadu. Once, Devendran fell into such a plight. Eraiyur was the place where Shiva subdued his arrogance. In this place, Lord Shiva takes the name of Mangaleswarar and blesses him. It is said that this is one of the temples built by Agathiyar Munivar. The Temple is believed to be 1000 years old. This temple is also worshiped as Vada Uthirakosamangai as this temple has many special features. Easan Swayambu of this temple appeared as a murthy and graced him.

Puranic Significance 

He worshiped the Sun in this temple and got rid of the curse. This place is also a place for removing ‘Rahu-Ketu’ dosha. Consecrated and worshiped by eighteen Siddhas, Kala Bhairava graces here as ‘Kala Shankara Murthy’. It is said that worshiping him will remove the fear of Yama.

Curse of Indra:

              Indra, who crawled in the Indra world with his wives, was proud that no one in the world was more beautiful than him.In this state one day, sage Durvasa visited Indra Loka. Indra, who was full of majesty, neglected to recognize the sage and pay him due respects. Due to this, Durvasar cursed that your beauty will perish from today. As a result of the curse, Indra fell seriously ill. White spots appeared all over his mane. Indra felt wrong. He bowed to Sage Durvasa and asked for forgiveness. Taking pity on him, Durvasa advised him, “If you pray to Lord Shiva, you will get liberation”.

Accordingly, Indra prayed to Shiva. “If you go to Mangalapuri in the earth and pray to me for peace, your sorrow will be removed; Lord Shiva blessed. According to the Thala Purana, Indra, who reached the earth, came to this place, worshiped Lord Shiva and got beauty and youth. Hence, even today, people with skin diseases can come and worship here and get benefit.

Salvation to Surya: The history of the temple says that Lord Surya, who lost his light due to Agathiya’s curse, came here to worship and got salvation. It is said that if those who are weak in business and work come and worship here, they will have a prosperous life.

Mangalapuri is the town where all the gods gathered and performed the four seasons of puja. It is believed that the first puja was celebrated by Indra Devas, the second puja by Brahma-Vishnu, the third puja by the 18 Siddhas and Saptha Rishis, and the fourth puja by Mother Shakti.

Special Features

Brahma Theertha is located in the northeast of the temple. If you bathe in this and worship Easan, all the unsolvable sins will be solved. Here, the Lord appears with a square robe, symbolizing wisdom. So, it is believed that those who come to this temple and worship will get wisdom and salvation. It is said that not only eighteen siddhas but also more than two hundred different siddhas worshiped and attained enlightenment in this temple.
