Puranic Significance
- Cooling Down Parvathi:
- The legend states that Lord Muruga came to Devar Kanda Nallur to pacify his mother, Parvathi, who was furious after a prophecy warned that her unborn child would cause destruction.
- Mother Parvathi, disguised as a midwife, intervened during the pregnancy of Vallala Maharaja’s wife, destroying the evil child without spilling blood.
- When the king attempted to harm Parvathi, she beheaded him out of rage.
- To calm her down, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva, along with other deities, descended, but it was Lord Muruga who ultimately succeeded, leading to the temple’s establishment.
- Name Origin: The name “Devar Kanda Nallur” translates to “the village where the Devas reside,” reflecting the area’s divine significance.
