Introduction

Chinnandi Vijayanathakeswarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the Chinnandi, Chennai district of Tamilnadu. Here the Presiding deity is called as Vijayanathakeswarar and Mother is called as Vijayanayaki Amman.

Puranic Significance

Chennai was once a beautiful village surrounded by coconut groves and fields. If you ask the reason for the name of the town, at that time there were many Sivanadiyars living in this area; hence it came to be known as Sivanandi Math and later became Chinandi Math. About Five hundred years ago, Moolavar Vijayanathakeswara and Nandi were found half buried in the earth where the bush was kneeling here. The temple was built according to Agama rules and other shrines were also established thereafter.
