Introduction
Chikkarayapuram Vishwaroopa Panchamugha Anjaneyaswamy Temple is dedicated to lord Hanuman. This Temple is located at a place called Chikkarayapuram, close to Mangadu in Chennai outskirts. The Presiding Deity is Anjaneyaswamy or Lord Hanuman who is very close to Lord Rama. This Temple is built in a sprawling area and in a very grand manner.
Puranic Significance
The Presiding Deity has 5 different faces and hence the name Panchamukha Anjaneya Swami. Hanuman, Hayagreeva, Narasimha, Garuda and Varaha make the Panchamugham. This Anjeneya Swami has 10 Arms with Weapons in them to safeguard. The Presiding Deity is around 32 feet tall. Though the Main Deity is black in color it is made of Green Maragadha Stone or Emerald. Different caricatures from Ramayana are colorfully displayed as images around the Sanctum. The Temple Maha Samprokshanam was performed in the year 2016. Dhanvanthri who is believed to cure all ailments finds a place alongside Anjaneyaswamy in the Sanctum. It is believed that the Devotees get cured from all their ailments if they visit this temple. Sri Rama Navami and Hanumar Jayanthi are performed here in a large scale. The peripherals around the Sanctum are kept very clean and a huge brass bell finds a place. The entire Temple has Granite flooring. The Temple has a Nandavanam too. Prasadams to Devotees and Annadhanam are regular features of this Temple. This Temple follows the Vadakalai Tradition.
