Introduction

Venugopala Parthasarathy Perumal Temple is dedicated to God Vishnu located at Chengam in Thiruvannamalai District of Tamilnadu. Here the presiding deity is called asVenugopala Parthasarathy Perumal and with his consorts Padmavati and Andal. It is more than 1500 years old. Its architecture and layout is similar to Annamalaiyar Temple. This is a Vishnu temple where Sri Rama worshipped.

Puranic Significance

During the Ramayana, Ravana was killed in a battle between Rama and Ravana. Due to this, Rama got Brahmahati Dosha. Brahmin said that if you come to this temple and worship for 13 days, the evil will be removed. According to this, Rama also came to this temple and worshiped for 13 days and got rid of his evil.

The yuddha kandam or the War Canto from the Ramayana is painted at this Temple. The Venugopala Parthasarathy temple supported more murals, but only the War Canto is extant. The whole story must have been painted on the northern and southern flanks, with the story finishing in the central square.

Beliefs

People with mental disorders are brought here to the Alwar shrine and worshiped and prayed for cure. It is believed that if women who are barred from marriage come around Perumal in the morning, they will get married soon.

Special Features

In the Garbhagraha, Perumal with four arms, Padmavati and Andal appear near Perumal. There are Utsava Murthys with it. This is Perumal who showed the treasure to a poor man by removing his sins. During the Sangam period, Sengam city was called “Senkan”. When Thimmappan ruled this, a small land king named “Talava Nayakkan” came to Chengam city to collect taxes. Then he and his family built this temple. The temple was built 1500 years ago. There is a tunnel between this temple and the Anjaneyar temple which is 60 feet away. Kings used this route during times of war.

Festivals

The 18 day Brahmotsavam in Vaikasi (May-June) is very famous as the Lord would be coming in procession on Garuda (the eagle vehicle of Lord Vishnu). Also the sixth day of the festival would be a feast to the eyes of the devotees to see Lord and Andal exchanging garlands from the elephant vahana.
